Joy Smiley Zabala, Ed.D, is an independent consultant who also currently serves as the Director of Technical Assistance at CAST. She has been a leader in the use of assistive technology (AT) to improve education and life for people with disabilities for more than three decades.
As a general educator, special educator, teacher trainer, and conference speaker, Dr. Zabala has earned international recognition for her work on Assistive and Accessible Technologies, Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) and Universal Design for Learning. Dr. Zabala is the developer of the SETT Framework and a co-founder and author of Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology Services.
